FAQs
I have never done a linocut before, will I be ok?
This is a great place to start your journey into linocut. Previous participants who had never done a linocut before, have really enjoyed the course and been so happy with their results. You will be given step by step instructions and at times, one on one guidance. Shana is adept at catering to different levels of ability. Complete beginners are welcome.
I am an experienced artist, will I have to follow set lessons?
This workshop often has students who are absolute beginners as well as accomplished artists and everything in between. If you are an experienced printmaker, you will be able e to work ahead on your own project. Shana is experienced at teaching people at different levels (often in the same class). She will be there to mentor or guide you when necessary and discuss whatever theme you are interested in exploring, whether it is abstract, figurative or symbolic. As a university lecturer, Shana is comfortable talking about concepts and ideas for those people who are working at a higher level.

What can I do on the free day?
People have had great fun on the free day, doing all sorts of things depending on their interests and the type of holiday they are wanting to create for themselves. You can hire a driver and see different parts of the island. Others have spent the day relaxing by the pool and having a massage. In the previous workshops, some people have done the downhill bike tour, where you are driven to a mountain-top. Followed by a leisurely down hill bike ride, through villages and rice fields. Its a great way to get a glimpse into authentic Balinese life, things you wouldn’t otherwise see.
If you are wanting to extend your creative skill building, the ARMA resort offers other art workshops in Balinese painting, woodcarving and batik which you can book 24 hours in advance. See the ARMA cultural classes here. You can also do a Balinese cooking class at the ARMA run by the head chef Ibu Pusapa. There is also a great jewelry making workshop in the centre of Ubud http://chezmoniquejewelry.com/ which previous students have raved about.
Please note booking any tours, or outside workshops is your responsibility, you can organise it on the first or second day. It is not necessary to book it before you arrive in Bali. See the page Things to do in Ubud on this website.
